XL retail brand and Marty Morrissey make the perfect team

We all need a smile from time to time during these extraordinary times and grocery retail brand XL is proud to be the official sponsor of RTE Player’s new four part series, Marty in the Shed, which sees the hugely popular Gaelic Games correspondent broadcasting a light-hearted talk-show from his garden shed in Co. Clare.

The action on the field is currently at a standstill but Marty will be bringing his effervescent energy, charming personality and good nature to the RTE Player for a four-week series, which will see him entertain Ireland with music, chats and banter all from the confines of his garden shed! XL was thrilled to be presented with the opportunity to help lift the spirits of the nation by sponsoring this new show and is excited to experience Marty in the Shed along with the rest of Ireland.

Part of BWG Foods, the XL network of more than 250 community stores across the country provides employment to over 2,400 people and our independent retailers are part of the fabric of rural Ireland. Marty is, of course, synonymous with all things GAA and at this time of year he would normally be welcomed into homes all around Ireland when commentating on hurling and football matches. His popularity is universal and XL Retailers are proud to be able to bring Marty to their local communities through this sponsorship.

Commenting on the sponsorship, former All-Ireland winner with Dublin and Group Head of Sales XL, Paul Bealin, said, “We are delighted to sponsor the Marty in the Shed Show. Supporting our communities is at the core of everything XL do and the format of this new RTE Player show, with Marty at that helm, reflects that brand ethos. The four programme series will provide the people of Ireland some much needed light relief from the stresses associated with current Covid-19 lockdown. Marty’s contact list is as impressive as it is extensive and we are all looking forward to enjoying the show.”

The virtual chat show is broadcast exclusively on the RTE Player. Each episode will have 2-3 interviews with Marty’s friends from the world of sport, music and entertainment via video chat, as well as a musical performance.

There will also be a special appearance by the hugely entertaining Conor’s Sketches, who will share his famous Joe Brolly impersonation.

It’s certainly a bit different to be presenting a show from my Shed in my backyard in West Clare on the Wild Atlantic Way but here goes!” Said show presenter, Marty Morrissey. I’m deeply honoured to be given this opportunity on the RTÉ Player as I meet new and old friends who will be joining me from all over Ireland, USA, UK & Spain as we all try to cope with this world pandemic. We all need to stay safe right now and stay at home and hopefully we can bring a smile to your face for just a half an hour on RTÉ Player.”

The show is the perfect antidote to the current crisis and XL’s sponsorship is another example of how XL retailers are contributing positively during these challenging times. Indeed, XL retailers all over Ireland have responded brilliantly to the Covid-19 crisis and are going above and beyond to serve their customers, their local communities and crucially the most vulnerable in our society. They are doing this in many ways including home deliveries, telephone orders and a number of other initiatives designed to make life easier for our customers, including providing their customers with a friendly and safe environment in which to shop for their everyday essentials.
